7 Summer Smoothies

Health

It’s time to bring out the blender and make the most of the bounty of fruit. These seven smoothies satisfy your sweet tooth with no additional sugar, thanks to ripe fruit, like raspberries and honeydew. But they also provide plenty of energizing protein from sources like flax and chia seeds, nut butters, and yogurt. Each nutritious mix has roughly 5 to 10 grams of protein per serving, which can help satisfy hunger and give you lasting energy. Whip these up for a morning jumpstart or an afternoon energy-boost.

Each recipe makes one serving.

Mango-Coconut Smoothie
Rich in vitamins A and C, mangos infuse this mix with tropical sweetness, while chia seeds offer heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids and protein.

  • 1 mango, chopped
  • ½ cup light coconut milk
  • 2 tablespoons shredded, unsweetened coconut (divided)
  • ½ tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1 cup ice cubes

Combine mango, coconut milk, 1 tablespoon coconut, chia seeds, and ice cubes in a blender. Puree until smooth. Pour into a glass, top with remaining 1 tablespoon shredded coconut, and serve.

Blueberry-Lime Smoothie
Antioxidant-packed blueberries harmonize with vitamin C–loaded lime for a sweet-and-sour treat. Flax seed and milk join the mix to add protein, fiber, and calcium.

  • 1 cup blueberries
  • 2 teaspoons lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon lime zest
  • 2 tablespoons whole flax seeds
  • ½ cup reduced-fat milk
  • ½ cup ice cubes

Combine the ingredients in a blender. Puree until smooth, pour into a glass, and serve.

Peach-Oatmeal Smoothie
This creamy dessert-inspired blend harnesses the cholesterol-reducing power of oats. The potassium-packed peaches get a hint of inflammation-reducing cinnamon.

  • 1½ cups chopped peaches
  • 3 tablespoons rolled oats
  • ⅓ cup peach or apricot nectar
  • ¼ cup low-fat Greek yogurt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup ice cubes

Combine the ingredients in a blender. Puree until smooth, pour into a glass, and serve.

Plum-Kiwi Smoothie
Hemp seeds provide omega-3 fatty acids while also upping the protein factor in this smoothie, which incorporates vitamin C powerhouses, plums, and kiwis.

  • 2 kiwis, peeled and chopped
  • 2 plums, pitted and chopped
  • 1 tablespoon hemp seed
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup soy milk
  • ½ cup ice cubes

Combine the ingredients in a blender. Puree until smooth, pour into a glass, and serve.

Raspberry-Ginger Smoothie
Fiber and vitamin C–rich raspberries, stomach-soothing ginger, and antioxidant-packed pomegranate juice combine for a vibrant, refreshing smoothie. A scoop of protein powder gives this mix a nutrient boost without interfering with the fruity flavors.

  • 1 cup raspberries
  • ½ apple, chopped
  • ½ teaspoon freshly grated ginger
  • ½ cup pomegranate juice
  • 1 tablespoon protein powder
  • ½ cup ice cubes

Combine the ingredients in a blender. Puree until smooth, pour into a glass, and serve.

Peanut Butter and “Jelly” Smoothie
Pureed strawberries, rich in vitamin C, stand in for the jelly in this take on the classic sandwich. Peanut butter adds protein and a rich texture.

  • 1½ tablespoons natural peanut butter
  • 1 cup sliced strawberries
  • ½ cup reduced-fat milk
  • ½ cup ice cubes

Combine the ingredients in a blender. Puree until smooth, pour into a glass, and serve.

Honeydew-Mint Smoothie
This refreshing mix is a real treat for your tummy. Protein-rich Greek yogurt is a source of probiotics, while honeydew provides fiber. Cooling peppermint is a known stomach soother.

  • 1½ cups honeydew chunks
  • ½ cup low-fat Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon mint leaves
  • ½ cup ice cubes

Combine the ingredients in a blender. Puree until smooth, pour into a glass, and serve.
