Athene Life Re Hosts Inaugural Career Expo

HAMILTON, Bermuda – June 23, 2023 –Athene Life Re hosted its inaugural Life Career Expo on June 13th at Pier 6 in Hamilton. This year’s event brought together nearly 300 attendees and featured young Bermudians speaking about their career experiences, panels with industry experts, and roundtable discussions on industry topics such as job candidate branding and the value of joining the Life industry. 

The free, in person event was designed by Athene to provide students with information about career opportunities in the life and annuity (re)insurance industry. Aimed towards young adults at the end of their high school years, the event was also open to college/university students and adults looking to make a career change.

“As a Bermuda company, we are thrilled to have had such a strong turnout for our first Life Career Expo,” said Natasha Scotland Courcy, CEO of Athene Life Re. “As the life insurance sector in Bermuda continues to flourish, we are happy to educate Bermudians on the wide variety of options that a career in life and annuity (re)insurance can offer them, as well as provide them with an opportunity to network with professionals in the industry.”

Keynote speakers, Natasha Scotland Courcy and Colin Rego, founder and CEO of the Sargasso Group, shared their path to success and life lessons. Natasha spoke about resilience, the importance of hard work and learning how to add value to an organization. She shared her experience growing up in Trinidad and how hard work got her to where she is today.  Colin spoke about persistence and shared his personal testimony as a second generation Bermudian and “son of a pot washer.” 

Guests and speakers included employees from Athene and other Bermuda-based life (re) insurance companies in various areas including actuarial, finance, legal, marketing and human resources. The event closed with a networking session, which included Premier David Burt and Jason Hayward, Minister of Economy and Labour, giving attendees the opportunity to personally meet industry professionals and ask questions in an informal setting.
